Over summer I was looking for a new project to dive into. I wanted to create a 3D environment to improve my modelling skills however was unsure of the specific area I wanted to explore. So I started browsing YouTube for some inspiration and came across a tutorial on ‘Guitar Building’. Within this 10 minute video it goes through all the tools and techniques you need to create an acoustic wooden guitar. With my background of craft and design in High school and just general tinkering about, I thought I had a fairly good knowledge on wood work but then discovered the crazy techniques used to create this type of guitar. The thing that stood out the most was the way he decided to glue the back piece to the frame. He ended up using thin rope and wrapping it round the entire structure almost like a spiders cobweb.
It’s so bizarre for me seeing this organic method compared to the traditional clamping method for example. Now I knew I wanted to create an environment based around this theme of wood work / creation and with such a bizarre object like this clamp I would want that to be the center piece.
